The Las Piņas Historical Corridor: A Dream of the Past and the Future
By Speaker Manny B. Villar Jr.

continued...

We will then see Spanish Colonial design buildings such as the Police and Fire station, the Daniel Fajardo Hall, Gabaldon Hall and Public Library. We will also find Plaza Quezon transformed.

Irasan or Salt-Making Centers will be built to show a tradition as old as the city itself. We will pass by Fr. Diego Cera Bridge as it was originally designed in the 18th Century by Fray Cera himself, a renaissance clergyman who built the bamboo organ and who was an engineer to boot.

Zapote Bridge, already considered a historical landmark by the National Historical Institute, will likewise be restored.

A portion of the Fr. Diego Cera Avenue, particularly in the poblacion, is planned out be laid with cobblestones and will be made pedestrian-friendly. Sidewalks will be paved, lampposts, bollards, waiting sheds and garbage cans will be designed along Spanish design lines.

This project has already gained headway with the design of the New District Hospital and the Manpower Building of the local government.

As my commitment to our hometown, our family will build a historical and cultural museum to house the cultural treasures and historical records of the community.

Once fully developed, these places will see the sprouting of souvenir and novelty items industries.

Just minutes away from Manila, Las Piņas is convenient for tourist city tours. The Historical Corridor project will truly be a source of pride to Filipinos.

The project will show that despite the urban blight in Manila, there are still places of historical and cultural interests in the metropolis.

We in Las Piņas will make this dream come true. Not only for us but for all Filipinos.

Thank you.
